Privacy Policy (English)
Last updated: 1 October 2026. Basmala for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
In short. Basmala has no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking, or device or user identifiers. Your data — location, settings, prayer tracker, bookmarks — stays on your device; we cannot see it. The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs. It uses two open-source libraries, adhan-swift (prayer times) and GRDB (the Quran database), and neither uses the network.
On your device only. Prayer times are computed on the device. The Madani mushaf, the adhkar and their audio are bundled with the app and never use the network. Notifications and adhan alarms are scheduled locally on the device. Widgets and the Apple Watch app make no network requests.
Location. Your location is used on the device, at reduced (city-level) accuracy, to compute prayer times and the qibla direction. Near Makkah, where the qibla margin is narrow, a temporary precise fix is used only while the qibla compass is open; since version 2.4.2 it serves the compass alone and is not saved. To show your city name, your approximate coordinates are sent to Apple's geocoding service, which returns the name. This lookup only serves to display the name, plays no part in calculating prayer times, and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Fetched from our server. Recitation audio and the pages of the optional “Wasat” mushaf are fetched on demand from our server on Cloudflare, and can be downloaded for offline use from Settings → Downloads. Requests are not tied to any account and contain nothing that identifies you: the server receives only the name of the requested file (a surah or a page), plus what the system sends with every internet request — the IP address, device, OS and language details, and the app version. We keep no logs of these requests; logging is disabled in the server's configuration. The connection is encrypted: your network provider can see that a connection to our server was made, not what it carried.
Share links. Sharing a verse or a surah shares a basmala.dev link. Someone who opens it without the app sees a page on our site, also hosted on Cloudflare, with no cookies, scripts or trackers. Your device or the messaging app may fetch a preview of the link when it is sent.
Your data stays on your device. The prayer and deeds tracker, bookmarks, reading position, khatmah plan and settings are stored on your device. They leave it only inside your device's own iCloud or computer backups, if you have enabled them. If you read the Wasat mushaf without downloading it, its pages are requested from our server as described above, together with the two pages on either side for smooth page-turning, so the server sees which pages were requested; it does not log them. Your Apple Watch receives your approximate coordinates, city name and calculation settings over Apple's phone-to-watch link — not through any server of ours — so it can compute its own times. From version 2.4.2 you can erase the tracker history (prayers and deeds) in Settings → «مسح سجلّ المتابعة». Backups made before the erase still contain the old data, and offloading the app keeps its data; deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Children. The app collects no data from anyone, of any age.
